Student Stories: Kayla Quick

We received the opportunity to speak with one of our FCS Juniors, Kayla Quick, about her involvement with our Fine Arts Department – specifically our drama team!

“I started doing drama in 7th grade & I just took off from there!”

Kayla has taken on roles from the Devil in “The Devil and Daniel Webster” to Godmother in “Cinderella”. She says that she owes most of her growth in drama to her parents’ support and to her teacher, Mrs. Kendall.

“Mrs. Kendall (FCS Drama Teacher) has really supported and pushed me to put myself out there in drama. I’m a fairly shy person, and I was always one to stay backstage and help work on things, but she saw stage potential in me & helped me see it too.”

Some of Kayla’s specific talents bring additional help in making the stage come to life, such as her passion for makeup & costume design!

“I made the transformation dresses for Cinderella and Fairy Godmother in “Cinderella”, and helped with the makeup backstage as well. I want to major in SFX Make-up & minor in film, heading in the direction of costuming hopefully, so I’m getting to work toward my goals through plays and opportunities I’ve received at the school!”

Kayla’s favorite aspect of the Drama department is the family atmosphere that she gets to be apart of.

It’s like a family – both choir and drama – we come together and we’re always there for each other if anyone needs anything. It’s fun to do the thing that you love with the people that you love! Being so close to your classmates in the drama department is such a different experience. There’s always a lot of stress and time behind the stage that you don’t see, but we all get to get through it together.
